Also how did you get clean shots like that with a white background? Not sure if I can do anything for that with GIMP, as far as I can tell there isn't a real line tool I can use to make bent lines and such (I could trace paths I guess but those are weird to use). Your lines look real clean and solid btw, much more than mine. One small thing is that the hat should ideally be flat at the top, not a huge issue though so don't sweat it. It's OK though, I mean everybody knows he's based off of Layton and I might redesign him to share these traits anyway. I put ribbon/band thing near the top so that my character didn't look to much like Layton. In a reference character, let alone a game where cats SPEW GRENADES FROM THEIR MOUTHS I don't think making sense is really a priority. And if it's supposed to be a glossy shine.oops. It was also impossible to figure out the perspective of it, too. Share any heads you make here, so we can use them as well and laugh when they explode as they most surely will. It's still not bad though, I made it simply to test it out anyway. I'll try remake it to look better and fit the style of the original faces. So yeah, whipped up my ref in like 5 minutes in GIMP: When you're playing multiplayer, you need to enable "Remote User Faces" in the options to see other peoples' custom heads. Not horribly so but just a bit, you'll see what I mean when you try it out. Black-and-white images work well since the black stays black and the white turns to the chosen colour. The colours in the head will be tinted to the player's colour, except for white which just keeps the original colours.Transparency is supported, this includes partial transparency like anti-aliasing or see-through-y things.Your head must be facing right in your image, otherwise he'll face the wrong way.I think you can have up to 60 or so at a time. To open it in the game, just customise you're prisoner performer, go to the blueprint head (a new head shape that'll be there), and the custom heads will appear as face choices. Make a 128x128 image of your head, and put it in "\steamapps\common\BattleBlock Theater\GameData\UserFaces".

While the SoundProtex does indeed dull the high- and low-end frequencies, I didn’t notice a considerable amount of bassy thump missing from the kick drum or treble absent from the guitars. Which, in my opinion, is equally as important. Not only did the SoundProtex offer a superior experience to generic foam earplugs, they are very comfortable to wear for hours at a time. Throughout the show, I used the large eartips with the mid-block filter while my wife wore the medium size with the high-block option. Thrice is one of my favorite bands ever, and this is my favorite album of theirs, so I didn’t want gas station earplugs to ruin the nostalgia. I was able to test Sennheiser’s claims for the SoundProtex Plus at a recent Thrice show for the band’s Artist In The Ambulance 20th anniversary tour. The company further explains that the SoundProtex filters are designed to allow just enough of the higher frequencies through to maintain ambient awareness and the ability to have a conversation while you’re wearing them. Sennheiser says that the latter equally reduces high and low frequencies. But, it’s certainly enough to help you tune out the world.Įach of the acoustic filters are made with a “tuned” membrane and sound-dampening mesh. While that option does drastically reduce the environmental roar, they don’t create complete silence. Sennheiser doesn’t disclose a value for the full-block filter, but the goal there is to make things air and water tight to eliminate as much noise as possible (yes, you can wear them in the pool too). Low-block starts out at 10dB, medium is 17dB and high is 20dB. Those three all have different noise reduction ratings (NRR, single number rating or SRR in the EU) for their level of decibel reduction. The medium-block option is suitable for festivals, events and traveling while the high-block are appropriate for loud music, motorsports and using power tools. Sennheiser says the low-block filter should be used for “non-amplified concerts,” offices or bars and restaurants. Since each filter offers a different level of protection, they’re meant for different activities. The ear tips alone don’t provide any significant protection. The key difference here is the SoundProtex only comes with the full block filter while the SoundProtex Plus comes with additional low-, medium- and high-blocking filters. You can adjust the level of decibel reduction by swapping out tiny round acoustic filters on the outside of each plug. Each one has three sets of the cone-shaped ear tips in small, medium and large sizes. The SoundProtex earplugs come in two versions: the regular and the Plus. There’s also a small pouch included so the individual plugs aren’t rolling around in the bottom of your bag. These aren’t single-use earplugs either – you can rinse them under water before storing them until the next event. They’re soft and flexible, made of medical-grade TPE (thermoplastic elastomers) that don’t contain plastics or other potential irritants for sensitive skin. Sennheiser recently released its SoundProtex earplugs with the aim of doing just that. A number of companies have tried to tackle this challenge, offering various takes on filtered audio that allows good live sound to come through with an appropriate level of hearing protection. The sound comes through muffled and boring, and you’re likely to miss the more subtle instrumentation. However, those generic foam bits completely close off your ear canal and can really kill the vibe. Unless it’s an outdoor show, I’m taking earplugs. In my 30s though, I got wise to ear protection at concerts. I have some mild tinnitus, but no hearing loss, and I’m able to fully enjoy all music as I approach 40. Thankfully, I was never one to enter the pit, so perhaps standing near the back of the room spared me from any severe damage. Occasionally, I’d remember to grab a set of cheap foam earplugs from a gas station beforehand, but more often than not I just went without. I went to a lot of shows in tiny venues with way-too-loud PA systems. I nearly destroyed my hearing during my 20s. There are plenty of advantages to working with family members, but you also need to watch for pitfalls. If such interventions don’t work, however, you and other family members may have no choice but to seek prosecution. An advisor may want to explain to the perpetrator the illegality and possible consequences of the fraudulent actions. If you discover a family member is committing fraud, consult with a trusted attorney or accountant. Sometimes families choose to save the fraudster from public scandal or punishment rather than maintain ethical professional standards. Even when legal action is an option, families rarely can bring themselves to pursue action against one of their own. This becomes much more difficult when collusion requires the assistance of an outsider.Īnother factor that makes preventing fraud in family businesses hard is how they tend to handle fraud incidents. In some extreme cases, members of all-family boards have been known to work together to bilk their companies. If your company is large enough to have a board of directors, it should include at least one outsider who’s strong enough to tell you things you may not want to hear. Audited financial statements from independent accountants protect the business and its stakeholders. Your family business should look outside its immediate circles of relatives and friends and retain professional advisors who can be objective when assessing the company. That’s why independent auditors and legal advisors are critical. Of course, the person in charge potentially could be the one defrauding the company. Sometimes family businesses need to hit the reset button and reestablish a hierarchy and process of authority while moving forward with the enterprise. It may be awkward to exercise authority over members of one’s own family, but someone needs to take charge if or when issues arise. One of the biggest obstacles to fraud prevention is simply acknowledging that someone in the family could be capable of initiating or overlooking unethical or illegal activities.īut like any other business, family enterprises should include internal controls that make fraud difficult to perpetrate. Why might family businesses be more vulnerable to fraud than other companies? For one thing, prevention efforts can be hampered by loyalty and affection. However, they may also potentially face higher fraud risks. Often defined as companies that are majority owned by a single family with two or more family members involved in their management, family businesses can be a significant source of wealth. Family businesses make up a huge percentage of companies in the United States and produce much of the country’s gross domestic product. How to protect your business from deepfake fraudĭue to new levels of sophistication, deepfakes are able to bypass traditional anti-fraud measures as they fail to distinguish between what is real and what isn’t. According to McKin sey, this type of fraud is already the fastest grow ing type of financial crime in the U. Fraudsters are also turning to sy nthetic identities, using deepfaked images and videos, to open fake accounts with financial institutions. For example, synthetic voice impersonation has been used to defraud companies and business leaders, tricking them into giving away sensitive information or transferring money. While deepfakes are still largely restricted to jokes and pranks, fraudsters have be gun to wise up and exploit the technology for malicious purposes. Experts say that watching deepfake videos on a small screen like a smartphone or a tablet are more likely to look realistic rather than if you watched them on your TV or a bigger screen. For example, the creator of Tom Cruise’s videos had to spend over two months training an AI programme by feeding it with a huge number of images of the actor in order to create a realistically looking replica.ĭeepfakes are currently most widespread on social media where users usually quickly glance through an image or a video and often don’t think twice if the visuals they’ve been exposed to are real. It’s wor th noting that sophisticated deepfaked videos are very difficult to create. This technology quickly grew in popularity, and now there are a number of applications which allow users to substitute their face for that of a celebrity just by using a single photo. They are made to look and sound authentic by u sing deep learning technology and AI algorithms.ĭeepfakes first came into prominence in 2018 when a developer adapted AI techniques to create software that can swap one person’s face for another. What are deepfakes?ĭeepfakes are sophisticated forgery of an image, video or audio recording that could often be difficult to detect. In this blog, we look at the rise of deepfakes and how businesses and consumers alike can protect themselves. Wh at’s more, the creator of the videos said in an interview recently that he created them in order to ‘ raise awareness to the continued evolution of the technology that can create incredibly realistic fake videos of people’. So, the idea of these entertainment videos delivered by a deepfaked Tom Cruise had an additional benefit alongside the levity – of rais ing awareness around trust and misinformation. In a famous case, one business leader fell victim to a deepfake scam where fraudsters impersonated a trusted business partner, manipulat ing the CEO into transferring $243,000 to the scammers’ account. While this gimmick may be amusing at first viewing, the use of deepfakes as means to defraud unsuspecting victims has become an alarming trend that has increased since their emergence in late 2017. In one of the clips, Cruise is show n performing a magic trick with a coin, ending with him saying “It’s all the real thing”, and on others he could be seen golfing or tripping over a carpet. Earlier this month, popular Hollywood actor Tom Cruise was trending on social media not because of a new film that he’s working on, but thanks t o TikTok videos that went viral, generating many reactions from users around the ir authenticity. The first is to consistently make your payments until you have 20% equity in your home-or an LTV of 80%-at which point you can reach out to your loan servicer and request to cancel it. How Do You Get Rid of PMI?įortunately, there are a few ways to eventually get rid of PMI if you’re required to pay it now. This can cause PMI to be much more expensive than you realize. Keep in mind that if you split up the payments, however, you’ll pay interest on them, too. Alternatively, you can roll the premium into your loan and make monthly payments on top of your regular loan payments. You can choose to pay the premium up-front as part of your closing costs, and then annually until you’re no longer required to pay it. The terms of the plan, including cost and length of time you’re required to pay it, will be provided to you at closing. Your lender will arrange PMI through its own network of insurance providers. Pays the homeowner to repair or rebuild after a covered lossĬan be paid up front, monthly or financedĬan be paid annually or in monthly installments as part of your mortgage payment Pays the lender if you default on your mortgage Protects the homeowner’s investment and the lender’s collateral Usually required with a down payment less than 20%Īlways required on mortgaged property optional for free-and-clear homeowners but highly recommended Homeowners insurance protects you-the homeowner-but it also indirectly protects the lender because your home is the collateral for your mortgage. The cost of homeowners insurance depends on your home’s value and location, the property’s claims history, the level of coverage you buy, the deductible you choose and more. Homeowners insurance, on the other hand, is coverage you’re required to carry throughout your mortgage term-and it’s a good idea to have it even after you’re mortgage free. Mortgage insurance is a payment you have to make when you put down less than 20% on a home loan. That means you can deduct PMI for tax years 20, as well as retroactively for 2018. However, thanks to the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020, Congress extended the deduction through Dec. Previously, you could only deduct PMI through 2017. The good news? PMI is currently tax deductible. Your lender charges you PMI of 1%, for an annual premium of $4,500 or $375 per month. That means you borrowed a total of $450,000. Say you purchased a home for $500,000 and only put 10% down ($50,000). Let’s look at an example of how much PMI can cost: The higher your score, the less risk you represent to lenders, so it may be possible to qualify for lower PMI with good credit. The lower your LTV, the higher the risk for the lender, which is why the cost of PMI often increases as your LTV decreases.įinally, your credit score also can influence the cost of PMI. A smaller down payment-and thus, lower LTV-likely will require you to pay PMI until you reach that 80% mark. For example, if you put 20% down on a home, your LTV should then be 80%. The more you put down, the less you need to borrow, which gives you a higher LTV. This represents how much you’re borrowing in comparison to the total value of the property. The cost of PMI is also influenced by your loan-to-value ratio (LTV). The larger your loan, the more PMI you will end up paying. PMI is calculated as a percentage of your total loan amount and generally ranges between 0.58% and 1.86%. The cost of private mortgage insurance ranges depending on the particular lender and how much money you actually put down on the loan. But if PMI would strain your budget or cause you to spend significantly more on a home than you’d like, it’s a good idea to avoid it. That’s why paying PMI isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you can easily afford it. Depending on your personal financial situation, location and lifestyle, that may or may not be realistic. That means you need to save at least $78,560 to avoid PMI. was $392,800 in 2022, according to the National Association of Realtors. The median sale price for an existing home in the U.S. Of course, saving up 20% of your home’s value is easier said than done. In addition to avoiding PMI, a large down payment also gives you stronger financial footing and may allow you to borrow less and/or qualify for more affordable loan terms. The easiest way to avoid paying PMI is to put down at least 20% on a home loan. |
